The angel Gabriel is sent to Nazareth, to a virgin named Mary. "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word." Let us ask for the grace of humility and openness to God's plan.
The Visitation of Mary to Her Cousin Elizabeth
Lk 1:39–56
Mary, bearing within her the Word made flesh, visits Elizabeth. "Blessed are you among women." Let us ask for the grace of love of neighbour and joyful service.
The Nativity of Jesus in Bethlehem
Lk 2:1–20
The Son of God becomes man in a manger. "Today a Saviour is born to you." Let us ask for the grace of detachment and poverty of spirit.
The Presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple
Lk 2:22–40
Mary and Joseph present Jesus to the Lord. Simeon recognises him as "a light to enlighten the nations". Let us ask for the grace of purity of heart and obedience.
The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple
Lk 2:41–52
After three days, Mary and Joseph find him among the teachers. "Did you not know I must be about my Father's business?" Let us ask for the grace to seek Jesus whenever we lose sight of him.
